For today, I decided to attempt more blended shading than what I typically use. Overall, I'm pleased with how they turned out (more so the first one, but the other is okay too).
Medium for the first one: graphite and charcoal. The second is just graphite.
Oh Ky, these are great. The first one is beautiful, and I recognize who you've drawn! Great job Ky!
ReplyDeleteKy! How cool! The first one is so intriguing! I love how it looks illuminated! I think you should keep pushing the different mark making!
ReplyDeleteSolid work- blending, tonal variation- keep pushing that, especially in the face, around the eyes- remember eyes live in bony sockets, those shadows will really help you develop form and likeness. Keep working on facial proportions, remember sighting and measuring can help you line up your major outlines before you build in detail. The contrast in the top image is really striking, partially because you used 2 very different media. Work on building unity to help the figure and ground feel like they belong in the same picture plane- maybe incorporate some charcoal somewhere in the figure, maybe include some areas of detail in the background- you've got options.
